Time to get wet!
We will be holding a series of FREE beginner open water training sessions at the Ventura Pier starting this Sunday July 5, 2009! I will be joined by some very dedicated volunteer life guards to help out in keeping everyone safe. And yes we can always use more volunteers. Please tell all your friends and team mates about this great workout.
The object of this series is to help athletes that are new to triathlon and open water swimming become more proficient in the ocean. The series will cover basic open water swimming techniques and some racing tips. Here is a preview of what you can expect for the next few weeks.
Meet at
Workout Description:
1) Swim past the break water drills 2 sets
2) Race techniques for quicker entry and exit
3) Shallow water swim along the beach front about ¼ mile
Total workout is just about 1/2 of a mile of swimming. All workouts will begin at 8:00 am and finish at 8:45 a.m. I recommend that anyone who is new to ocean swimming to take advantage of these workouts. We will have a pre swim tips/safety session prior to getting in the water. Everyone is welcome and no one will be left behind.
Please make sure that you have had some pool time under your belt recently prior to attempting this workout. I recommend that you have at least 20 to 30 minutes of non stop swimming in the pool. This is a swim at your own risk event.
Some Frequently Asked Questions and Answers:

Answer: no you can park at the free Sanjon parking lot and walk north towards the pier; you will see us just past the bathroom and behind the yellow umbrella area.

Answer: it’s your choice, the water is typically 55 to 60 degrees so use your best judgment
